For Corneal Clinic

Cornea specialists at Drishti treat all corneal conditions including corneal swelling after cataract surgery, Fuchs corneal dystrophy (which can cause corneal swelling either before or after cataract surgery), keratoconus (thin, irregular cornea often starting in childhood or young adulthood), and recurrent erosion syndrome (episodes of eye pain often in the middle of the night or upon awakening).

We also treat many patients with symptoms of eye dryness and grittiness, often caused by dry eye disease (not making enough tears) or eyelid inflammation (often from blepharitis or meibomitis when the eyelid oils aren’t produced properly and don’t coat the surface of the eye as they should). We see many patients with corneal infections resulting from bacterial, fungal or viral organisms such as herpes simplex eye infections and herpes zoster eye infections. Corneal surgical procedures: corneal transplant including PK, DSAEK,DMEK pteryium surgery, amniotic membrane transplantation, limbal stem cell transplantation, removal of conjunctival lesions, corneal repair, corneal tattooing, intracameral injections

FAQs

what would happen if cornea was damaged?

If damage is caused to the cornea, either by trauma or as the result of corneal disorders, your cornea may become scarred. If corneal scarring occurs then there is a risk that your vision may become affected.

Can a damaged CORNEA cause blindness?

Unfortunately, yes. A cornea, which has been damaged, can be a cause of blindness in some people. There are a lot of different conditions that can cause the kind of corneal damage that leads to blindness. These conditions include infectious corneal diseases, such as infectious keratitis, and non-infectious conditions.

Do CORNEAL scars fade?

Some corneal scars fade with time as the cornea heals itself. This is, however, dependent on the depth and the severity of the scarring. If multiple layers have been damaged, the scar may take longer to fade, or it may never fade.

Can the cornea heal itself?

The cornea can usually recover itself from the minor scratches or injuries. Given proper care, it takes about 48 hours for the healthy cells present in the cornea to repair the minor corneal scratch. However, in case of significant injuries, you will experience symptoms like redness, blurred vision, headache, reduced vision, inflammation in the eye, or light sensitivity.
