I Am My Own Flashlight

You know that feeling when you're in a dark room, and you start to see random flashes of light? It’s like your eyes are secretly turning into tiny disco balls without your permission. You’re like, “Wait, am I a human or a walking flashlight?" But fear not, it’s just your retinal cells being overly dramatic.

• These little flashes are often called phosphenes, and they happen when the cells in your retina are being, well, too enthusiastic. Sometimes they get triggered by movement, pressure, or, in some cases, when you're way too tired after binge-watching the latest series. (That last one is a real kicker.) The effect can range from a tiny spark to full-on fireworks, but in the end, it’s just your eyes trying to create a light show when there’s no actual light to be found.
